Google Antigravity
Type: app · Vendor: Google · Language: Go (CLI) · License: proprietary · Status: active · Status in practice: emerging · First released: 2026
Google's agent-first development platform (IDE + Go CLI) with multi-agent orchestration; successor to Gemini CLI.
Description. Agentic IDE plus a Go-based Antigravity CLI announced at Google I/O 2026. It carries forward Gemini CLI's Agent Skills, Hooks, Subagents and Extensions (now plugins) and adds multi-agent orchestration. Google is deprecating Gemini CLI for free/individual users on 2026-06-18 and steering them to Antigravity.
Agent loop shape. A tool-using coding agent with lifecycle hooks and skill loading; subagents handle delegated work, and a multi-agent orchestration layer coordinates them across the IDE and CLI surfaces.
Primary use cases
- agent-first coding in an IDE and terminal on Google models
- skills/hooks/subagents-based extensibility migrated from Gemini CLI
- multi-agent orchestration of coding tasks
Key concepts
- Agent Skills → agent-skills (docs) — On-demand loaded skill workflows (migrated from Gemini CLI).
- Hooks → event-driven-agent — Lifecycle event handlers.
- Subagents → subagent-isolation — Delegated agents in isolated contexts.
