Ramp's Accounting Agent automatically codes and syncs routine, in-policy spend to the ERP while routing low-confidence and exception transactions to a human and posting nothing without human confirmation.
Description. Ramp's Accounting Agent automates transaction coding and ERP synchronisation for corporate spend. Routine, in-policy transactions move from swipe to ERP on their own, while only the minority of exceptions are surfaced for human review. Each decision shows its confidence level and rationale, and nothing posts to the ERP without explicit human confirmation. This keeps a human accountable for material postings while removing manual work on clearly approved spend.
Agent loop shape. For each transaction the agent classifies it and assigns a confidence level. High-confidence, in-policy spend is coded and synced to the ERP automatically. Lower-confidence and exception transactions are surfaced to a human reviewer with the agent's rationale, and the human decides. Across both paths nothing is posted to the ERP without human confirmation, so the agent acts autonomously on routine cases and defers material or uncertain postings to a person.
Primary use cases
- automated transaction coding
- syncing in-policy spend to the ERP
- routing exceptions for human review
- confidence-gated accounting automation
Key concepts
- Accounting Agent → risk-tiered-action-autonomy (docs) — Ramp's AI that auto-codes the accounting fields (GL, department, class, location, and custom fields) of a transaction the moment it posts, without hand-maintained coding rules.
- Zero-touch lane → risk-tiered-action-autonomy (docs) — The path that carries routine, in-policy spend from card swipe straight to the ERP automatically, while only exceptions are split off for human review.
- Confidence and rationale → decision-log (docs) — Each decision carries an explicit confidence level, a stated rationale, and an override path, which together form the audit trail and decide whether a transaction is auto-synced or sent for review.
Patterns this app implements —
- ★Risk-Tiered Action Autonomy
Ramp's Accounting Agent auto-codes and auto-syncs routine, in-policy spend on its own, but routes lower-confidence and exception transactions to a human and posts nothing to the ERP without explicit…
- ★★Human-in-the-Loop
The agent surfaces only the minority of transactions that need human judgment for review and requires explicit human confirmation before any posting, keeping a person in the decision loop for excepti…
- ★Confidence Reporting
The agent attaches a confidence level to each coding decision and surfaces it alongside the result, so a reviewer sees how certain the agent is about a transaction before acting on it.
- ★★Decision Log
Every coding decision records its confidence, rationale, and any override so the action is explainable and the audit trail stays intact for later review.
